A heartbreaking story has emerged from China where a couple sharing a passionate kiss in the middle of the street were hit by a speeding drink-driver, killing one of them.
The fatal accident happened on the streets of Heze City in East China’s Shandong Province in the early hours of the morning.
Footage from the unfortunate accident shows the couple appearing to be quarrelling in the street at around 3am local time, with the woman trying to get away from her boyfriend.
But the man chases her into the street, the two embrace and then share a long kiss.
Some drivers on the street are able to avoid hitting the lovebirds, but the romance ends in tragedy when the drink-driver, surnamed Zhang, speeds into view and slams right into them, sending them flying into the air.
Zhang did not stop and continued driving until he was eventually caught by authorities several hours later.
Passing drivers called the police and arriving paramedics rushed both victims to hospital.
One of them is said to have died after failed attempts to revive them, but reports did not elaborate on whether the man or the woman survived.
The police confirmed that Zhang tested well over the legal drinking limit and now faces manslaughter charges as well as punishment for fleeing the crime scene.
